The final steps of furnishing are still in full swing, but soon entrepreneurs from the district will be welcomed here. An official inauguration is planned to take place shortly. Staffing for the economic development office is also being expanded – open positions will be advertised gradually. The move is more than just an organizational step – it is the visible result of a project that was especially close to the late District Administrator Tobias Heilmann’s heart.

Einen zentralen Baustein dieser Umstellung bietet „Mein Unternehmenskonto“, das jetzt im Serviceportal https://openrathaus.gifhorn.de/ integriert und ab sofort nutzbar ist. Auch die Mitgliedskommunen werden sukzessive angeschlossen. Neben zahlreichen Anträgen für Privatpersonen stehen ab sofort somit auch digitale Anträge für Unternehmen und Vereine bereit. Digitale Verwaltungsleistungen verschiedenster Behörden über einen deutschlandweit einheitlichen Zugang zu nutzen – das ermöglicht „Mein Unternehmenskonto“. Das
staatlicherseits bereitgestellte Nutzerkonto mit integriertem Postfach für Mitteilungen und behördliche Bescheide ist speziell für Organisationen entwickelt worden, die wirtschaftsbezogene Verwaltungsleistungen benötigen.
„Mein Unternehmenskonto“ ermöglicht es Unternehmen und Vereinen, sich unter Nutzung des ELSTER-Zertifikats anzumelden. Neben einer Vielzahl von Online-Services aus den Bereichen Bauen, Gewerbemeldungen, Auskünfte aus dem Gewerbezentralregister, Infektionsschutzbelehrungen und vielen anderen Anträgen können Unternehmen und Vereine somit auf eine vereinfachte und zentralisierte Kommunikation mit der Verwaltung zurückgreifen.

On May 26, 2025, the kickoff event of the new *KI-Lab* series took place in the event space of Volksbank BRAWO in Gifhorn. The format was organized and implemented in cooperation with the Gifhorn Business Association (Wirtschaftsvereinigung Gifhorn e.V.) and Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences. The aim of the event series is to translate current scientific developments in artificial intelligence into concrete applications for the regional economy. As a university of applied sciences, Ostfalia is committed to conducting practice-oriented research and actively fostering exchange with businesses. This focus was also reflected in the content of the event.

Expertise Meets Practice: Focus on 3D Printing and AI

Prof. Dr. Menzel from Ostfalia University presented various exhibits from the field of additive manufacturing, including printed model airplanes, 3D printers, and filament spools. In his lecture, he clearly explained the different printing methods, the wide range of usable materials, and automation approaches in 3D printing. A particular focus was placed on the potential of using artificial intelligence in additive manufacturing—such as improving print quality, optimizing processes, and using resources more efficiently. Additionally, the Center for Additive Manufacturing at Ostfalia was introduced. There, companies have the opportunity to practically test the available 3D printing infrastructure and explore their own applications.

The *KI Lab* event series will continue after the summer break. An exact date will be announced at a later time. The organizers share a common goal: to actively promote knowledge transfer between science and industry in the region.

Together with the Welcome Center der Regionthe Stabsstelle Integration des Landkreises Gifhorn and the IQ Netzwerk Niedersachsen We hosted an event where around 35 guests were informed about this topic, had the opportunity to learn about best practices, and found answers through mutual exchange. It was a great event where new contacts were made, and valuable information for the future was gained.

On Saturday, January 18, 2025, the decision for the first construction phase was announced by the Lower Saxony State Authority for Road Construction and Transport. The planning approval decision, including legal instructions and the approved plan, will be electronically published from January 22 to February 4, 2025, as part of the currently ongoing planning approval procedures and consultations by the NLStBV. A specific start date for the construction work cannot yet be determined. The decision on implementation and funding lies with the German Bundestag.

The construction of the A39 represents an important step for the sustainable development of the region and plays a key role in strengthening the economic location. With the improved transport connection, both logistics and transportation options will become significantly more efficient, which benefits businesses in particular. The optimized connectivity will allow them to enhance their competitiveness, which not only promotes regional trade and economic traffic but also makes the location more attractive to investors.

Ute Spieler, district councilor for environment, construction, and schools, attended the event on Tuesday, December 3rd, at the... Niedersächsischen Landesbehörde für Straßenbau und Verkehr (NLStBV) in Hanover, together with Jonathan Hartmann, mobility manager at the Gifhorn district, received the expansion strategy for public charging infrastructure. The strategy had been developed in recent months in collaboration with the state authority and the municipalities of the district. Timo Quander, president of the state authority, formally handed over the work results.

"An important aspect of switching to an electric car is good charging infrastructure. In addition to the wallbox at home, public electric charging stations are particularly important in rural areas, as longer distances are often traveled," said district councilor Ute Spieler.

„Mit dem Konzept haben wir einen wichtigen Grundstein für eine flächendeckende Versorgung mit Ladeinfrastruktur in vielen Gebieten des Landkreises Gifhorn gelegt. Da sowohl die Kommunen als auch der Landkreis an einem Ausbau der Ladeinfrastruktur interessiert sind, jedoch weder finanzielle noch personelle Ressourcen für die Errichtung und den Betrieb von Ladeinfrastruktur bereitstellen können, ist eine markwirtschaftliche Lösung nötig. Mit dem Konzept ist eine attraktive Investitionsmöglichkeit für die Akteure des Marktes geschaffen worden, ohne die knappen Haushaltsmittel übermäßig zu beanspruchen“, betonte Mobilitätsmanager Jonathan Hartmann.

NLStBV President Timo Quander expressed his pleasure with the constructive cooperation. "With your expansion strategies, you now hold the key to the rapid and systematic growth of the public charging network in your region," he said during the handover of the concept. "In doing so, you play an important role in the transition to alternative drive systems in Lower Saxony. The Lower Saxony State Authority for Road Construction and Traffic will continue to support you in this endeavor."

The concept includes a number of locations where charging stations for electric vehicles can be established. To identify these locations, the Gifhorn district, in cooperation with the state authority and the municipalities, had assessed the demand for charging capacity for electric vehicles until 2030, analyzed areas, and coordinated the feasibility of constructing charging stations with the electricity network operator.

The expansion strategy is the foundation for quickly and systematically deploying a large amount of charging infrastructure across the region. Energy supply companies are to build fast and standard charging points under concession. On this topic, the NLStBV invited the municipalities of Lower Saxony and the National Coordination Center for Charging Infrastructure to Hanover on December 2nd to present models for the tendering of charging infrastructure for municipalities. The state authority will further tailor this nationwide support to the municipalities of Lower Saxony. The goal is to simplify access to the successful expansion of charging infrastructure for small communities.
